El director y actor cubano Vicente Revuelta, considerado una de las figuras más importantes del teatro en América Latina, falleció este martes en La Habana a los 82 años, informó el Consejo Nacional de las Artes Escénicas.
Revuelta, ganador del Premio Nacional de Teatro 1999, "murió en las primeras horas de la madrugada" de este martes y "su entierro está previsto para mañana (miércoles) en la Necrópolis de Colón", en La Habana, señaló el Consejo, citado por la agencia cubana Prensa Latina, sin precisar las causas del deceso.
Nacido en La Habana el 5 de julio de 1929, Revuelta comenzó su carrera artística a los siete años actuando en concursos de aficionados y programas de radio, luego cursó estudios de actuación en la isla y en 1952 viajó a París para completar su formación.
En 1954 regresó a Cuba y cuatro años después fundó con su hermana Raquel, fallecida en enero de 2004, Teatro Estudio, un de las más importantes agrupaciones de la escena cubana, con la cual llevó a las tablas lo mejor y más avanzado del repertorio cubano e internacional, e introdujo en la isla el método de actuación Stanislavski.
Culto, de andar pausado y decir irónico, Revuelta, considerado uno de los más relevantes actores y directores del teatro latinoamericano, formó a varias generaciones de artistas cubanos e impartió conferencias y talleres en más de 15 países de América Latina y Europa.
También introdujo en Cuba las obra del dramaturgo alemán Bertolt Brecht y sus puestas viajaron por prestigiosas salas de teatro del mundo, entre ellas las de Colombia, México, Italia, España y Portugal.
Entre las obras más significativas que llevó a escena están "El viaje de un largo día hacia la noche", "Fuenteovejuna", "Madre Coraje", "El cuento del zoológico", "El perro del hortelano", "Galileo Galilei", y "La duodécima noche".

Havana, Cuba, Jan 10.- One of the most prestigious figures of the Cuban theater, Vicente Revuelta, passed away in Havana at 82.
Revuelta was one of the founders, in 1958 along with his sister Raquel Revuelta, of the Teatro Studio theater group, which later became an emblematic company that represented the best of the Cuban and international theater repertoire.
In 1946, he started his artistic carreer as an actor in the play “Forbidden to Commit Suicide in Springtime” directed by Alejandro Casona. A few years later he joined the Nuestro Tiempo Cultural Society where he used to teach seminars and lectures.
After founding Teatro Studio, he directed and participated as an actor in many plays and films.
Revuelta made many tours and gave lectures in more than 15 countries of Latin America and Europe. His plays were staged in a wide number of theaters worldwide.
In recognition of his work as a theater instructor at several cultural institutions and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), Revuelta received the Doctor Honoris Causa in Art honorary title from ISA.
Considered as one of the most outstanding actors and theater directors of Latin America, Revuelta’s death leaves a void in the Cuban theater and culture. (ACN)
